wah wah wah... so I've been talking to alot of people about this site lately and they all seem to be confused about what this is... and each time I talk to someone I have to describe it; site's original intent, goals, etc... bit exhausting for my brain >:O

So I figured I might as well start writing out a base "about TFN" but seeing as this site is still a little baby, there's no definitive "THIS SITE IS"...

Think of the following post as a wiki entry, which based on the discussion amongst you [the users] and myself will help to define TFN

Networking - this is like a myspace/facebook at the base, with the exception that each person remains anonymous (using aliases) if so desired

Groups - not trying to make it so TF becomes any sort of "official site" for any group, the purpose of this site is for fansubbers only to interact

• [future] project management/tracking (amongst group members only)
• [future] project tracking (history/timeline) release data, etc (visible to public) connected to MO for direct downloads of a groups releases
• [future] torrent tracking, no this doesn't mean you can post torrents here and find stats, it'll just be links to the actual torrent files hosted on another site (anirena, etc)
• [current] group discussion (public or private, forum/post dependant)
• [current] file distribution (primarily amongst staff only, however good way to get "RC" scripts or "finalized" scripts out to the public for critiques, discussions, or just to share (open source = win)
• [current] group pages (honestly I'm still trying to figure out a use for this... maybe just use it for like release notes, history of blah blah? use it like a wiki?)
• [current] group blog - this can be used by any member of the group to hold discussions (public or private) amongst the TFN community (fyi this is my invitation to you to actually publically promote your group on this site O:) - as you may already know, blogs appear on the index
• [current] group bookmark / another what the heck is this? - maybe post links to references you used when translating something? for instance I had to do a fuckload of research on the sword forging process when I did ep 1 of blacksmith :/
• [enhancement] group page information - page of staff members for public view as well as each members position within the group - correlated to each project they worked on etc (project stats will be recorded on invidual user pages as well :>)

Members - obviously this is an individual page for each fansubber... right now it's very basic and I want  to mode alot of the fields

• [enhancement] display project stats (Count: 15 episodes) - something like that cept alot more detailed qc'd 239 episodes, tl'd 13045 episodes / hehe
• [enhancement] display date when started subbing (yeah I know this is vague or unknown for most) - the display will calculate based on the input date (6 years 3 months, 2 days) / hmmm
• [enhancement] more facebook shit for those who care (want to be arsed) - Birthplace, Education, Jobs, etc.
• [enhancement] staff positions (subbing jobs) - translator, group fag, etc. ;p
• [enhancement] group membership | display position in group

Classifieds - original purpose was an organized classifieds listing/site for subbers (NOT SUB GROUPS), site is not meant to facilitate recruitments at all - only a good way to find certain persons who could help in a time of need (i.e. freelancers) : FYI [FUTURE] we're scripting a mod that will work it's way into this site /classifieds

• Users will be able to post classifieds for groups but NOT recruitments (i.e. "looking for a KFX to help with the OP of blah blah blah animu" or "I'm willing to do some typesetting for a max 5 episodes if a group is stalled on a project")
• latest classified entries will be displayed on the site index
• all classifieds are organized by job type (i.e. translation "we need a tl to help with the last two episodes of blah blah"
• ^ if for instance you're a tl, in your dashboard you may see something that says "10 new tl requests" or w/e (i'll make it so you can opt not to have latest classifieds displayed in your personal "home" (dashboard)

Wiki (pages) - right now pages aren't really "wiki-ible" I mean sure admins can edit any pages, and the submitters can update their pages, but there's alot of wiki like capabilities I've yet to include ([[link]], [[link|name]], etc.) and obviously I want it to be editable by the whole community

• [enhancment] site wide contribution (logged in users only) - past edits will be recorded exactly like wikipedia
• [enhancment] editing shortcuts, [[link]] or w/e /me not know the codes off top of head

- purpose of wiki by the way will be more so for tutorials "How to Fansubbing" blah blah and possibly some pages that help newbie subbers learn how to go about studying Japanese, etc.

Design - There's alot of design work I'll be doing around the site of course, any suggestions regarding layout (organization of blocks, fields, etc.) feel free to suggest :D

And of course post ideas, thoughts here as well please - or if you have an idea of what you think TFN is to you, need help coming up with some sort of short description of what the site is...
